A Community That Honors the Individual

Families come to Hampstead Academy for many different reasons, just as every child who walks through our doors brings different strengths, interests, needs, and possibilities.

What connects our families is a desire for something more personal: an education where children are known, challenged, supported, and encouraged to become active participants in their own learning.

Recently, we asked our current families to reflect on their experiences at Hampstead Academy and what mattered most to them when choosing a school. Their responses reinforced something we see every day: the strength of our school is not one program or one curriculum. It is the combination of strong academics, personalized learning, caring relationships, communication, and a community in which children are truly known.

Known, Valued, and Supported

At Hampstead Academy, we honor the individual. We recognize that children do not all learn in the same way, develop at the same pace, or arrive at school with the same interests and strengths.

Our small learning environment gives teachers the flexibility to know their students deeply and adjust instruction accordingly. Students are encouraged to grow academically while also developing the confidence, independence, and sense of belonging necessary to take intellectual risks.

This was one of the strongest themes in our recent parent survey. Families repeatedly described Hampstead Academy as a place where their children are known rather than simply being another student in a classroom.

One parent described valuing:

“Communication. A feeling of inclusion and my son’s not just a number. The resources available to reach educational milestones. Quality reputation and hands-on learning.”

That feeling of being known matters. Personalization is not an add-on at Hampstead Academy; it is fundamental to how we teach.

Personalized Learning with Strong Academics

Our educational model is inquiry-based, action-oriented, and built around both strong academic foundations and meaningful opportunities for students to investigate questions that matter to them.

Project Based Learning allows students to apply academic skills to authentic problems, investigations, and experiences. Teachers collaborate across subject areas, including our Unified Arts programs, so learning can move beyond the boundaries of a traditional class period or textbook chapter.

Students might conduct an experiment, research a question that emerged from a larger investigation, create something to solve a problem, interview an expert, travel off campus for expeditionary learning, or present their discoveries to an authentic audience.

Our parents recognize the importance of maintaining that balance between personalization and academic rigor. When asked what stands out about their experience at Hampstead Academy, one family highlighted:

“Individualized learning and strong academics, teaching talent, sincere care for each child and their family, open to suggestions and new ideas, constant improvements being made.”

Another parent, who is also an educator, explained what mattered when choosing a school:

“As a teacher myself I want to make sure my child is receiving top tier education.”

For us, personalization does not mean lowering expectations. It means understanding a student well enough to know how and when to challenge them.

Small Classes. Big Learning.

When families first discover Hampstead Academy, one of the things that frequently catches their attention is our small class size. But the real advantage is what small classes allow us to do.

Our classrooms are active spaces.

Students collaborate, question, build, write, investigate, experiment, discuss, create, revise, and present. Teachers have the opportunity to notice when a student needs additional support, when they are ready for a greater challenge, or when a seemingly simple question could become the beginning of a much deeper investigation.

Small classes also allow learning to extend beyond the classroom. Our campus, community partnerships, expeditions, Unified Arts programs, and Project Based Learning experiences become part of the curriculum.

We believe students learn deeply when they have opportunities to do something with what they know.

Communication and Community

One of the clearest messages from our parent survey was something that cannot be measured by a test score: relationships matter.

When families were asked what stood out after joining Hampstead Academy, communication was mentioned repeatedly:

“Exceptional communication so far.”

Another family highlighted the school’s:

“Communication and excitement for his learning and what will be taught. The school’s ability to make us feel like we are family and known.”

That is the kind of community we strive to build.

Because we are small, teachers, administrators, students, and families know one another. Parents are partners in their children’s education, and we welcome communication, questions, suggestions, and collaboration.

Our families also told us that Hampstead Academy’s experienced staff and warm, inviting environment were among the things that initially attracted them to the school. As one parent simply put it:

“Meeting the staff gave me a great feeling.”

We think that matters. A school is ultimately a community of people, and families should have the opportunity to meet the people who will know, teach, encourage, and care for their child.

Finding the Right School for Your Child

Our families told us that their searches for schools often began online, but they did not end there.

They researched curricula, compared public and private school options, spoke with other families, visited schools, and asked questions about academics, class size, teaching philosophies, resources, and opportunities for their children.

That is exactly what we encourage prospective families to do.

Choosing a school is an important decision, and our enrollment process is intentionally personal. A tour gives families the opportunity to see our campus, visit learning spaces, meet members of our community, and ask questions. Prospective students may also participate in a Shadow Day, experiencing Hampstead Academy alongside our current students.

We want families to understand not simply what we teach, but how it feels to learn here.
