LOWER SCHOOL ACADEMIC HUBS

At Hampstead Academy, foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking form the core of our Lower School academic program. Students progress at their own pace within a structured, supportive framework guided by Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). Each ILP is developed collaboratively and reviewed throughout the school year with teacher, parent, and student input. Assessments provide valuable reference points to inform instruction and goal setting, helping teachers respond intentionally to each child’s strengths, needs, and growth.

Learning at Hampstead Academy extends well beyond traditional academic blocks. Project-Based Learning (PBL) is intentionally woven throughout the week, giving students opportunities to ask meaningful questions, investigate real-world problems, make connections across subject areas, and create work with authentic purpose.

Empowered Learning Framework

In our Lower Elementary Academic Hub, we intentionally provide guided choice as students begin developing independence and ownership of their learning. While students are not placed in a fully student-directed model, they are given meaningful opportunities to make thoughtful learning choices, collaborate with peers, and build consistency in their commitments. Teachers carefully scaffold this process, helping students strengthen decision-making skills, perseverance, and responsibility. As students grow, we gradually introduce elements of project-based learning to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence.

ENRICHMENTS

Unified Arts Program

Our Unified Arts Team plays an important role in supporting and extending this learning. Students participate in Music, Fine Arts, Physical Education and Wellness, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), with Fine Arts offered twice each week. Rather than existing as isolated “specials,” these experiences are designed to complement classroom learning and contribute to interdisciplinary projects whenever possible.

Together, core academics, PBL, and Unified Arts create a learning experience that develops the whole child—building strong academic foundations while nurturing creativity, curiosity, collaboration, confidence, physical well-being, and the ability to think deeply about the world around them.
