LOWER SCHOOL ACADEMIC HUBS

At Hampstead Academy, a significant portion of each school day is dedicated to the foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, and critical thinking form the core of our Lower Elementary program. Students progress at their own pace within a structured academic framework supported by Individual Learning Plans (ILPs). Each ILP is developed collaboratively and reviewed multiple times throughout the school year with teacher, parent, and student input. Standardized assessments serve as reference tools to inform instruction and guide goal setting, allowing teachers to use data intentionally to refine each child’s learning path and ensure readiness for Upper School.

In addition to core academics, students participate in a robust enrichment program that includes art, music, science, physical education, and dance. On Fridays, students engage in elective-style enrichment blocks, where multiple offerings take place simultaneously, allowing them to choose the experience that most interests them. These opportunities broaden their learning, nurture creativity, and support well-rounded development.

Empowered Learning Framework

In our Lower Elementary Academic Hub, we intentionally provide guided choice as students begin developing independence and ownership of their learning. While students are not placed in a fully student-directed model, they are given meaningful opportunities to make thoughtful learning choices, collaborate with peers, and build consistency in their commitments. Teachers carefully scaffold this process, helping students strengthen decision-making skills, perseverance, and responsibility. As students grow, we gradually introduce elements of project-based learning to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and confidence.

Foundations in Learning for Lower School Students

Our Lower School program offers multiage classrooms where students develop social and emotional skills while building self-esteem.  Students experience individualized and a hands on approach to learning.  We focus on fundamentals of Math and English Language Arts while laying the foundation for progressively more immersive and experiential learning.
